GRE Analytical Writing and Verbal Reasoning Syllabus:
The Analytical Writing section evaluates critical thinking and logical reasoning through two tasks: the Issue Task, requiring a 30-minute essay on a topic, and the Argument Task, analyzing an argument in 30 minutes. The Verbal Reasoning section tests the ability to analyze written content and comprehend word meanings through 20 questions per section, including Sentence Equivalence, Text Completion, and Reading Comprehension. GRE Quantitative Reasoning Syllabus:
This section assesses mathematical skills and quantitative analysis through Quantitative Comparison and Problem Solving questions. Covered topics include ratio and proportion, probability, quadratic equations, coordinate geometry, volume and surface area, and more. The focus is on interpreting data and solving problems using fundamental math concepts.
GRE Test Structure and Duration:
The GRE consists of 2 sections each for Quantitative Reasoning (35 minutes per section, 1 hour 10 minutes total), Verbal Reasoning (30 minutes per section, 1 hour total), and Analytical Writing (2 tasks, 30 minutes each, 1 hour total). The total test duration is 3 hours 45 minutes, with a 30–35 minute break after each section.
GRE Scoring System:
The GRE General Test scores Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning from 130 to 170 (in 1-point increments) and Analytical Writing (AWA) from 0.0 to 6.0 (in 0.5-point increments). The total score ranges from 260 to 340 (combining Verbal and Quantitative scores), with AWA scored separately.
The GRE General Test lasts approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes, divided into three sections:
You can designate institutions to receive your scores during registration or after your test by going to your online GRE account within 48 hours of your test date. Sending additional score reports later requires a fee.
You can request additional score reports (ASRs) online through your GRE account. There is a fee for each ASR resquest.
No, you cannot see your official scores immediately after completing the test. You will receive your scores electronically within 10-15 days of your test date.

There is no direct conversion from scaled score to percentage in GRE. The percentiles reported with your scores indicate how you fared compared to other test-takers.
The GRE General Test assesses general verbal, quantitative, and writing skills, while the GRE Subject Test focuses on specific subject areas like Math, Physics, or Chemistry. Not all graduate programs require the Subject Test.
